Portuguese Language
Portuguese is a Romance language that initially came from the Galician-Portuguese once spoken in the former Kingdom of Galicia. It is one of the official languages of the European Union spoken in Portugal and Brazil as well as other former Portuguese colonies such as Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Sao Tome au Principe. Portuguese is a language that would compete with Italian or French for the notions of being “romantic” given the fact that Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega, famous Spanish literary figures, called the language “sweet”.
Portuguese has been ranked as the fifth most spoken language in the world with about 272.9 million native speakers, most of which reside in Brazil and Portugal with Brazil having the most numerous speakers, given the country’s immense size. Getting deep into the cultures of Brazil and Portugal necessitates the use of the Portuguese language and this is why it is a good idea to learn the language. Given the number of people in the entire planet that speak Portuguese, the entire Portuguese-speaking market is worthy of consideration for those who plan to enter it.
